One of the founders of the Hui O He’e Nalu, and founder of Da Hui clothing company, Eddie is also one of the creators of the first EddieAikau Big Wave Contest event held at Sunset Beach in 1986. To add to his credits, Eddie is also the founder of the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout which is the only professional surfing contest with its unique contest format and the only event that promotes & supports the most hawaiian surfers. In the 70’s, Eddie has been known to fight for the rights of local surfers and was tired of surfers & organizers from the US Mainland and Australia coming to the Islands taking all the waves and disrespecting the locals. Because of Eddie’s actions, surfers and world renown surfing companies from around the world come to Hawai’i with respect & appreciation for the Hawaiian and non-Hawaiian local surfers. 31 years later, Eddie is still active with the Hui O He’e Nalu lending his support and knowledge to the club’s current leaders. Eddie is father to professional surfer, Makua Rothman – and upcoming surfing standouts, Koa & Lono Rothman.
